Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Best SUV for the money - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I went back and forth, and finally decided on the Jeep. No problems so far, except I think the transmission needs a little work ... seems to jump around 40mph and 60mph. Other than that the only problem I had was a rattling sound that I think is coming from the emergency brake hitting the console. Overall I really love my Jeep and everyone that has seen it has like it as well. Good SUV for the city!

  • You get what you pay for. - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am amazed at reading comments that say there are blind spots, or cheap plastic trim, or low windshields or uncomfortable seats etc etc. Youd think none of these owners, ever test drove their vehicles before buying them. If youre fat or short or tall, a Jeep is never the right purchase - simply not enough adjustibility. Its made for the average buyer at an average price and has average reliability, fuel economy and comfort. Some seem to think that buying a US car means something more than mediocrity. It doesnt. So either buy a decent car at a decent price, or wake up about what a Jeep is all about.

Headrests too low; access to windshield wiper/washer controls and access to headlight controls a little constricted and difficult to see selections through the steering wheel. Comfortable front seating, handles well,is sufficiently responsive, interior appointments well done. Information center upgrades over previous years a nice feature.

This has been a good vehicle for me. Lots of fun. Great for towing our 17 foot boat. Comfortable on our 15 hour fishing trip drives to Canada. Great sound system. Love the all-wheel drive in wet/snowy weather. Only major problem over the years has been a lot of headaches with the air conditioning -- it is a problem every year.

at 64,000 had to have the rear axle rebuilt, cost over $1000.00. Now at 66,000 the front end is making the same noise the rear did, was told front end needs rebuilding and the ABS doesnt work. At only 66,000 miles!!!??? Nice riding vehicle, but poor on gas and expensive repairs.

  • Good vehicle - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Vehicle is very reliable. It is a safe and trusted vehicle. Very durable and drives through snow and light off road very well. The vehicle does have very poor fuel ecomomy, which is why I proably will not buy another. The vehicle makes you feel very safe in any driving condition. Jeep just needs to make the vehicle more fuel efficient and the vehicle would rock overall!

  • Love Hate Relationship - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The looks of this vehicle make you fall in love but the repair bills and time in the shop make you hate it. We bought our 2002 Limited in 2004 with 25,000 miles. Thank goodness for extended warranties. During the 2 years of ownership the vehicle was in the shop 8 times for something major. Climate control, engine cooling fan, window regulator(s), CD changer, hood struts, seat heater(s), you name it... it broke. The rear end was clunking and front end was making weird noises when we traded it AND THIS VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED! If youre going to buy it, get a good warranty or have several $1000s in an account to pay for the repairs.

Reliable 2nd or 3rd vehicle, perfect for hauling, hunting, fishing or just running errands

  • Its Still a Jeep! - 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

My family has been buying Jeeps for years now and has had generally pretty good luck with them. Our 2010 Grand Cherokee Laredo is no exception. Before believing the professional reviewers who claim the 3.7 liter V6 engine is underpowered, I suggest you drive one and decide for yourself. Mine has plenty of get up & go although the mileage could be better. My dealer was doubling the manufacturers rebate, meaning I saved over $10,000 off of MSRP before they looked at my trade-in.

  • What Problems? - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought a 6cyl/auto. with 41k miles and have put on 18k more, so far. Most of my driving is in town, with a few road trips. Aside from the right door lock sticking(when using the remote), the noisy front swaybar bushings, and front alignment, I havent experienced any major problems. Maint. is fairly straightforward and parts prices are average. Front brake pads were replaced at 41k, but the rotors were fine.
